Formerly the York Masonic Temple, the
building that houses THE YORK on HIGH Brownstone and Loft
Condominiums was designed by Stribling & Lum Architects and built
in 1914 to accommodate York Lodge’s growing membership. The
official groundbreaking took place in May 1914, and the York Temple,
home to York Lodge #563, was dedicated in 1915.
Membership continued to grow
throughout the remainder of the decade and through the early parts
of the 1920s, but peaked in 1928 and began a steady decline.
Rehabilitation of Columbus’s Short
North district, which began in the 1980s, did not initially include
the area in which the temple was located—in 2002, York Lodge members
decided to sell the building—available funds were no longer adequate
to maintain the aging building.
Renovations, designed by
Behal Samson
Dietz and implemented by The New Victorians, began in 2007;
sales of completed units began in 2009. |
